BMW Motorrad Philippines keeps the passion for one of its most popular model lines alive with timely updates to the entire lineup for 2021. First introduced in 2013, the R NineT series combined classic motorcycle design and modern technology with excellent craftsmanship and a wide range of customization options.
Now, SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp., official importer and distributor of BMW motorcycles, brings more value to the R NineT lineup with the addition of more standard features, typically offered as optional in other countries.
The improvements start with increased safety. All BMW R NineT models now come with a complete suite of riding modes and ABS modes. “Rain” and “Road” riding modes now come standard, allowing riders to instantly tweak engine response to suite the road or conditions.
These settings can be seen in the new classic circular instrument panel with a built in LCD information display panel and LED backlighting. The dial also has indicator lights that are “invisible” when not illuminated.
Reigning all that power in is made easier with the addition of ABS Pro including DBC (Dynamic Brake Control) and a new suspension strut with travel-dependent damping (WAD) now as standard. ABS Pro in combination with DBC (Dynamic Brake Control) provides increased safety when braking – at banking angles as well as in difficult situations.
Standard features also include a new shock absorber with travel-dependent damping (WAD), providing enhanced suspension comfort and convenient adjustment of the spring preload via a hand wheel.
Riding Modes Pro with the additional modes “Dyna” for the R NineT and “Dirt” for the R NineT Urban G/S are now available as standard for the 2 models, as are DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) and engine drag torque control (MSR). Another new feature is the Comfort Package, comprising Riding Modes Pro, Cruise Control and Heated Grips. The turning light and the rear silencer design are likewise new to the range of individual extras.
BMW has also upgraded its convenience features. All R NineT models now come with an LED headlamp with cornering lamps (active at angles of 25 degrees) and white LED indicator lights. For the rider’s gadgets, there’s a new standard USB charging socket to charge mobile devices while on the go.
Powering the models is the retuned engine now designed to meet the requirements of the EU-5 pollutant class. Its peak power output is now 80 kW (109 hp) at 7250 rpm (previously 81 kW (110 hp) at 7750 rpm), while the maximum torque is still 116 Nm at 6000 rpm. Newly designed cylinder heads provide a more harmonious transition from the outer to the inner cooling fins, and newly designed throttle valve parts and cylinder head covers now give the bike even greater aesthetic appeal. Thanks to an even more full-bodied power and torque curve – especially in the range between 4000 and 6000 rpm – pulling power levels are now tangibly better than those of the predecessor.
The R NineT is available in four model lines: the R NineT Pure; R NineT Scrambler; R NineT Classic; and R NineT Urban GS.
The R NineT Pure continues to offer the purest experience with its single instrument dial with built-in LCD digital display. It’s offered in new colors like Teal Blue Metallic (PhP 995,000.00); Mineral Grey (PhP 995,000.00); and Black Storm Metallic/Racing Red Spezial (PhP 1,045,000.00).
The R NineT Scrambler comes in a typical Scrambler design with balanced rideability and deep boxer sound. Cross spoke wheels are fitted as standard. It’s offered in new colors like Granite Grey Metallic (PhP 1,095,000.00); Kalamata Metallic (PhP 1,095,000.00); and Cosmic Blue Metallic/White Spezial (PhP 1,145,000.00).
The BMW R NineT Classic is a new iteration of the legendary roadster with impressive riding dynamics. It’s also fitted with wire spoke wheels and extras like Ride Modes Pro, ABS Pro, and heated grips as standard. It comes in colors like Black Storm Metallic (PhP 1,275,000.00); Night Black/Aluminum Spezial (Php 1,345,000.00); Aluminum Matte Spezial (PhP 1,345,000.00); Mineral White Metallic/Aurum Spezial (Php 1,345,000.00).
Finally, the R NineT Urban GS comes in the very limited 40 Years of GS Edition. This unique model features off-road tires on its gold-lipped cross spoke wheels, ABS Pro, Ride Modes Pro with Dirt, DTC, and the Option 719 Billet Pack dylinder Head covers. It’s priced at PhP 1,275,000.00.
Besides these models, BMW Motorrad Philippine also offers an extensive lineup of Option 719 custom parts to further personalize each R NineT’s look. We personally recommend the multi-function LED turn-signals just like the R 18.
The new BMW R NineT models are now available at all BMW Motorrad showrooms in the country.
