Besides its current Yamaha GP, Yamaha Motor Philippines kicked off another competition series to tour the country, the Yamaha Moto Gymkhana. The manufacturer is bringing in the precision time trial sport for Filipino riders to enjoy.
The event kicked off at the SM City Santa Rosa parking lot, with two identical courses lined with cones. The course tests riders' ability to perform tight figure-8's, 360's, and maneuvering in tight spaces.
The competition is open to all Yamaha riders with several categories: Automatic Open, Underbone Open, All SZ Users Open, All FZ Users Open, TFX 150 Beginners Class, and the main event TFX 150 Expert Class. Riders can enter with their own motorcycles with very little restriction on power or modifications as the course only allows for low to moderate speeds. For the main event TFX 150 Expert Class, stock Yamaha TFX 150 units will be provided.
Yamaha will hold several legs, with the top three riders of each category advancing to the series final.
To kick off the event were Yamaha executives led by President, Toro Osugi; YMPI Sales and Marketing Director, Kaoru Ogura; and Ryan Jude Camus. The event was opened with an impressive exhibition by the Taytay Stunt Team.
For those that opted not to compete, Yamaha also prepared test drive courses for visitors to sample the TFX 150, FZ, Mio Aerox 155, and Nmax.
