European electric scooter brand steals BIMS 2020 show

There’s no shortage of electric scooters and motorcycles on the market, with designs varying from conservative to outlandish. They’ve become more popular lately because of the limitations and fears over public transportation brought about by the current pandemic.

While there’s nothing wrong with the many conservative designs, it’s usually the more outlandish ones that get our attention. Velocifero is no exception. The brand made its Thailand debut at the recent Bangkok Motor Show and wowed none other than the CEO of Grand Prix International, Dr. Prachin Eamlumnow, the show’s organizer.

Velocifero is an electric mobility brand founded by Alessandro Tartarini. His father, Leopoldo founded Italjet back in 1959. Alessandro, for his part, designed some of Italjet’s most iconic models, like the Dragster and Formula.

Now with his own brand, Tartarini hopes to bring to electric scooters what Italjet did for regular commuter scooters.

At the Motor Show, Velocifero brought in three of its newest models.

Leading the charge was the MAD, an electric, foldable scooter with seat and oversized 6-inch, 145mm tires. The scooter features a wooden deck like a skateboard over a steel frame. It can be fitted with motors ranging from 500W to 1600W, with top speed of up to 45 km/h and a range of up to 35 km/h. It features front and rear disc brakes as well as chain drive.

The E-Classic on the other hand takes on the form of a vintage bicycle while still bearing the brand’s trademark oversized tires. This electric-assist bike even comes with faux twin cylinder heads to troll other riders. Despite its classic look, it has an LED battery status display. It has a top speed of 25 km/h and a range of 80-km.

Finally, Velocifero’s most eye-catching model is the Beach MAD. Though few details were revealed, it's easily the most interesting of their lineup. It sports the biggest, fattest tires of them all and boasts of what looks like nearly a foot of ground clearance.

For now, Velocifero is only available in Malaysia and Thailand. Though we’d certainly like to see this unique brand offered locally.
