French custom shop pimps out Rebel 1100

One of Europe’s top custom bike shows, the Wheels and Waves festival in Biarritz, may have been cancelled, but thankfully, many of the entries are showing up online. French custom house, FCR Original was slated to show these custom Honda Rebel 1100 (CMX1100) creations alongside the custom CB650Rs we featured last week.

These two Honda Rebel 1100s show two different directions to take the stock cruiser and quite frankly look good enough to be offered in showrooms.

CMX SPORT

The first is the CMX Sport, a more playful take on the cruiser that portrays it as a more sporty machine.

The bike was first sketched digitally. Then, the team went to work on a swingarm modification to fit a pair of black Öhlins rear shocks, as well as a 17-inch CB500F rear wheel and Dunlop D212 190/55-ZR17 tire. The front mudguard is scratch-built and 25mm lower; oversize handlebars add leverage while the speedo has been moved to the top yoke.

The bodywork was created by doing a complete 3D scan and creating a custom polyester-carbon fuel tank (with aluminum filler) and rear seat unit with LED lighting and Alcantara seat. Hand-built footrests add a racing feel while the red/black paint and detailing pays subtle homage to classic Honda imagery. The engine is stock, but breathes through an FCR Original stainless steel exhaust.

CMX BOBBER

The next creation is a Bobber that highlights the key elements of the Rebel. The swingarm and suspension are stock, but lowered 25mm at the front while custom-built black-spoke wheels wear fat Bridgestone tires.

It gets aluminum handlebars, a leather seat with perforated leather ribbing, a simple aluminum front mudguard (with Mirrachrome finish) and a painted headlight surround. Mini-Bates FCR Original LED indicators tuck neatly away.

Like the CMX Sport the custom polyester-carbon fuel tank was created thanks to the 3D scan – with Mirrachrome/blue satin finish – and aluminum filler. A ceramic-coated FCR Original exhaust is the finishing touch, highlighting the mechanical beauty of the bike.

These are both based on the recently launched Honda CMX1100 Rebel, powered by a heavily re-tuned 1,084cc twin-cylinder Africa Twin engine, allied to a stiff tubular steel frame.
