Middleweight and lightweight bikes also planned

115-year old American motorcycle maker, Harley-Davidson, announced today its historic venture into the adventure bike segment. The Milwauke-based company announced its plan to produce the Pan America 1250 adventure bike, which is scheduled to hit the market in 2020. There are no detailed specs released yet for this planned motorcycle by Harley-Davidson, but sources point out that it will be powered by a liquid-cooled 60-degree V-Twin engine with an output of more than 160-hp. There are only a few available photos of the Pan America 1250 online and from the looks of it, Harley-Davidson plans to go head on with BMW’s legendary R1200 GS.

Harley-Davidson is certainly diversifying its lineup by 2020, and according to their website Harley-Davidson is “Introducing a new modular 500cc to 1250cc middleweight platform of motorcycles that spans three distinct product spaces and four displacements, starting with the company’s first Adventure Touring motorcycle, the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250, a 1250cc Custom model and a 975cc Streetfighter model, all of which are planned to launch beginning in 2020. Additional models to broaden coverage in these product spaces will follow through 2022.

Also, Harley-Davidson will be developing “more accessible” products for the Asian emerging markets with its introduction of affordable 250-500 cc motorcycles which will be most likely to be manufactured in India – one of the largest motorcycle markets in the world.
