Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has recently revealed the 2017 TMAX, based on the “Master of Scooter” concept, at the 2016 Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo e Motociclo (EICMA) Show.
The styling of the new TMAX inherits styling cues from the previous model offering. The muffler has been redesigned while the rear arm increased in length. The engine case also incorporates a new design to present a mechanical expression.
It also has more decorative features that shows off the model's new style. The tunnel shaped left and right covers and the left and right lids on the leg shields now feature a textured trim line created on a shaping mold hand-crafted by a craftsman.
Meanwhile, the combination of the newly-designed frame and resin box has made it possible to accomodate a large-capacity under-seat trunk which could fit at least two jet type helmets, depending on size.
The manufacturer claims that the new TMAX is 9 kg lighter compared than the outgoing model. Apart from the adoption of a newly-designed aluminum frame, the secondary drive belts have been replaced in favor of a lightweight 25mm-wide high-strength type, along with new pulleys.
The new TMAX is the brand's first scooter to feature the Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) system. It is also equipped with TCS to support smooth acceleration whether on wet or unsealed roads.
In addition to the standard specification, the SX and the DX, which features cruise control and electronically-adjustable screen for superior comfort, will also be available. All three specifications have ABS as standard equipment too.
Other new features include a two-piece analog & 3.5 inch monochrome TFT instrument panel, a new riding position, a smart key with enhanced functions, Yamaha Motor's first scooter with D-MODE, grip heater and main seat heater (DX), rear suspension initial loading/damping adjustment function added (DX), etc.
The 2017 Yamaha TMAX will be available in two colors: Matt Dark Purplish Blue Metallic 1 and Matt Silver 1.
