The centerpiece of both the Gixxer 250 and the Gixxer 250SF is the engine. They're powered by an air and oil-cooled, 249cc single-piston Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) engine with a single overhead cam (SOHC) that produces 26.5 PS of power at 9,000 rpm and 22.6 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm.

Suzuki's Oil Cooling System (SOCS), which uses an oil cooler fan and oil-cooling radiator, has also been fitted in both bikes for improved oil flow. These cool the engine more efficiently. They also claim that both bikes were able to achieve average fuel consumption of 38.5 km/L yet still producing more power and cleaner emissions.
