Adventure riding fans have something to celebrate as Suzuki Philippines and Wheeltek just took off the wraps of the all-new V-Strom 1050XT.
The new V-Strom 1050XT is currently Suzuki’s flagship adventure bike. With this model, the company hopes to get a piece of the lucrative adventure bike pie from household adventure riding names like KTM’s 1090R/ 1290R Adventure, Honda’s Africa Twin and, of course, the BMW R 1250 GS/ GS Adventure.
Just by looking at the new V-Strom 1050XT, one cannot deny that the new flagship adventure bike from Suzuki has some resemblance to the DR 750S and DR 800S – commonly known as the “DR Big,” which were the dual sport bikes of the late 80s. According to Suzuki, one of the design inspirations for the new V-Strom 1050XT is indeed the DR Big that competed during the yesteryear Dakar races.
Suzuki has also paid homage to their racing heritage by adapting the orange and white color scheme of the original DR Big, while a yellow version links to Suzuki’s motocross colors.
The new V-Strom 1050XT is powered by a new Euro 5-compliant 1037cc, 90° V-Twin engine. Suzuki claims that the new powerplant puts out 7% more power vs the outgoing model at 107 Ps at 8,000 rpm. Suzuki also boasts of upgrades to the intake and exhaust cams with increased lift duration and less overlap. These aid the engine in creating a “flexible character and strong linear drive.”
Top-notch electronic aids are pretty much the standard in today’s adventure bikes. Not only do these electronics make the bike safer, it also helps the riders get the best out of their adventure bikes under the right settings.
The new V-Strom 1050XT uses the new Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS), which is aimed at enhancing everything from rider comfort to performance and practicality. The new V-Strom 1050XT also boasts a ride-by-wire throttle system, Motion Track Brake System which includes lean-angle sensitive ABS, hill start assist, a three-mode traction control system, and ride modes.
The new V-Strom 1050XT is available in Glaze Blaze Orange (orange and white), Champion Yellow (yellow and black), and Glass Sparkle Black (black and gray).
Suzuki's new adventure bike is priced at PhP859,000 and is now available at all authorized Suzuki Big Bike dealers.
