EDSA boss wants your help

Six days ago, 13 motorcycles fell victim to another blatant disregard for the motoring public's safety as another dump truck unloaded loads of soil along EDSA. As expected, it turned into slippery mud after a sudden downpour. 13 motorcycles fell victim to this mud patch. The incident happened on the northbound tunnel of EDSA-Shaw.

Was it intentional?

This is not the first time this incident happened. Back in August 6, the same incident happened when soil was spilled along the northbound portion of the EDSA-Ayala Avenue tunnel. Two motorcycles fell victim to the spill, and it could have been more if not for the swift action of the MMDA.

About a week before that, soil was spilled in the northbound portion of Guadalupe Bridge in Makati. Though there was no reported accident at the time, it prompted the MMDA to close the section to clean up the mess.

Same Modus Operandi

While the driver and the truck remain at large, the MMDA has been able to decipher a pattern with these incidents. It always appears to be caused by 1) a dump truck; 2) the spill is always on northbound lanes, which means the truck travels along EDSA from the south going north; 3) the truck must be overloaded with soil, possibly without a cover and 4) it always happens during the wee hours of the night (possibly between midnight and dawn).

The MMDA needs your help

The MMDA has already been poring over the available CCTV footage to find the culprit. However, it is appealing to the public who may have dashcam footage of the incident that may help them identify the offending truck/s (via plate number and make and model) in order for them to check their records and take action.

Motorcycle riders, especially our brothers from the courier industry (Grab, Lalamove, Toktok, etc.) and motorcycle taxis (Angkas, Joyride and MoveIT) spend a lot of time on the road and are at the most at risk when these incidents happen. Chances are, if you happen to be riding along EDSA and witnessed this, help our authorities stop this submit your dashcam video.

If you have information that may help solve this, call the police or MMDA’s hotline 136.

Bear in mind that trucks are banned from using EDSA except along the portion between Roxas BLVD and SLEX (Magallanes). As such, any trucks on along the EDSA-Shaw tunnel are already in violation of the truck ban.
