KTM Moto2 rider tests positive for COVID-19

Moto2 title contender, Jorge Martin of Red Bull KTM Ajo, has become the first rider of the premier motorcycle racing league to test positive for COVID-19. According to reports, the 22-year-old Spanish rider has tested positive for the virus prior to the San Marino Grand Prix and is currently under home isolation.

“Jorge Martin has been unable to travel to Misano due to a positive test for COVID-19,” said the Red Bull KTM Ajo through a statement.

Prior to this, a television crew that covers the races had tested positive before the Czech GP. The person and everyone that had close contact with him was immediately placed under isolation.

“The Spaniard feels well and is quarantined at home, respecting the safety protocols of the health authorities. Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 team hope[s] that he will be able to make a speedy return to the paddock to continue the great work done at recent rounds,” added the team.

Martin is currently just 8 points behind Moto2 points leader, Luca Marini of the SKY Racing Team VR46, for this year’s title.
