New tire designed for versatile performance

Dunlop is not exactly top-of-mind when it comes to motorcycle tires. In fact, these tires, usually fitted as OEM, are quickly replaced once worn for other other brands. Yet with this new tire, that might not be the case.

Dunlop’s newest tire, the Mutant, is promoted as a versatile, all-road, all-season tire compatible with over 370 bike models, from adventrue to sport touring, naked, retro, or scrambler.

The Mutant brings together the brand’s expertise in hypersport, touring, and wet weather technology to create a single tire with a fusion of these innovations.

The Mutant has an ‘M+S’ rating, making it perfectly suited for challenging conditions. The mutant is built with a mix of ply material, construction, and compounds designed to operate in the toughest of climates. The Mutant’s tread pattern combines aggressive-looking blocks with a dynamic directional design. This distinctive look combines supermoto and dirt track tread patterns to make it appealing to custom bike builders as well where style is expected, but with no compromise to performance.

In addition, the Mutant comes in five front and six rear tire sizes, allowing it to fit over 370 different models. The Mutant wasn’t just designed for adventure, sport tourer, or crossover bike like the Ducati Multistrada, Yamaha Tracer, or Kawasaki Versys. It was designed to bring crossover performance to a vast array of models.

This versatile design also allows it to perform off-road. In Dunlop’s own off-road testing the Mutant outperformed competitors in front grip, rear grip and handling on a Yamaha Tracer 700 and a BMW R 1200 GS on the demanding Monteblanco off-road course.

“Mutant provides riders with the kind of handling and stability expected from hypersport tyres, but combined with the very best grip in wet conditions this side of racing wets, as well as the kind of durability that you would expect from a touring tyre,” said Dmitri Talboom, Product Manager, Dunlop Motorcycle Europe.

“Increasingly, we are seeing scrambler, retro and naked bikes being used as all-season, all-purpose machines. Dunlop’s research tells us that these riders are looking for a tire that gives them the hypersport feel and handling but providing the confidence to enjoy the ride - whatever the weather. Dunlop Mutant delivers that unique crossover appeal,” said Talboom.
