Just in time for Ati-atihan

In preparation for the expected influx of tourists eager to witness the annual Ati-atihan Festival in Kalibo, Aklan, the DPWH has recently completed various road rehabilitation / improvement projects in the province of Aklan.

According to DPWH Aklan District Engineer, Noel L. Fuentebella, these include the completion of the 4.82 km asphalt overlay and 1.67 km road-reblocking along Jaime Cardinal Sin Avenue heading towards the Port of Dumaguit in the town of New Washington.

Thermoplastic pavement markings, along with the installation of new warning signs were also put up by the DPWH along the major road that connects Kalibo with New Washington. The Aklan West Road, which connects to Boracay Island in the town of Malay, also benefitted from new chevron signages and guardrails that cost Php 6.06 million. Apart from those, the Kalibo bridges (which lie parallel to each other) are now fully lit for safer night-time riding.

Meanwhile, the curbs and gutters along Jaime Cardinal Sin Avenue leading to Kalibo International Airport have been repainted and given thermoplastic pavement markings for better visibility.

“We have also deployed maintenance teams to seal cracks, patch potholes, and de-clog canals along national roads to ensure that our major roads are ready for the expected large volume of devotees, tourists, and locals,” said Fuentebella.

These improvements were made to make travel to and through the area safer and more efficient.

Thanks to its completion, the 2019 Ati-atihan Festival can proceed in full swing.
