Straps are not for decoration

Some riders still see the helmet as a requirement rather than safety gear. In order to ‘iwas huli’, some only wear their helment when they see enforcers around.

We even discussed some of the laziest excuses for not getting/ wearing a proper helmet a few months back.

Slipping on your helmet without securing the strap properly can also have painful consequences. Unfortunately for this rider, he had to learn his lesson the hard way.

EDSA boss, Col. Bong Nebrija, shared on his social media page what would happen when a motorcycle rider meets an accident and his helmet is not strapped on properly.

According to the EDSA boss, a motorcycle rider figured in an accident at the southbound lane of the Ayala tunnel and has road rash all over his face. Locally, it's jokingly called Tocino (Spanish for pork belly) because the raw skin resembles the sweetened meat dish.

He was wearing a proper motorcycle helmet. However, he did not secure the strap of his helmet properly. Thus, when he fell off his bike, the helmet flew away, leaving his bare face to kiss EDSA’s pavement.

Sayang ang helmet na di naka-strap, walang kwenta! (The helmet that's not strapped on is useless!).

If there’s any consolation, the rider only suffered minor injuries and a bruised ego.
