There’s no shortage of electric scooters for sale, but how many let you take out the battery to charge at a more convenient location? This new electric scooter from the UK lets you do just that.
Called Silence, this new scooter brand is based in Solihull, West Midlands in the UK. The scooter is designed as an urban transport solution designed especially for highly urban areas like condominiums where a socket to recharge isn’t always nearby a parking space.
Portable battery
Silence has a whole family of electric scooters available, all of which have the easily removable battery. The scooter is designed and engineered in Europe. It’s manufactured in Spain. It boasts of “Barcelona” inspired styling and smart technology.
The scooters are powered by a unique, patented, and proven lithium-ion battery system. It features a completely portable design with a ‘click-and-go’ release, as well as a trolley system to roll it to the nearest 240V socket. Silence e-moto scooters can even recharge their own battery on the move, generating energy as you slow down.
Four models
The first model in the lineup is the Silence S01 “The Commuter”. Its performance is equivalent to a 125cc scooter, designed for town and city use. It has a 5.6kWh battery and 7kW (9kw peak power) motor deliver a range of up to 130 km, 0-50km/h in only 3.9 seconds and a limited top speed of 100 km/h.
The Silence S02 and S02 LS Long Range are designed for door-to-door delivery services and urban business use. The Silence S02 LS Long Range, is limited to 50 km/h with a 5.6kWh battery and 1.5kW motor and a range of up to 150 km. The more powerful S02 adds a 7kW motor to give a limited top speed of 90 km/h and up to 130 km range. These models are also fully customisable with a wide range of business accessories, from cavernous top boxes to windscreens.
The Silence S02 LS (low speed) is the entry level model comparable to a 50cc scooter and designed for younger riders. With a 2kWh battery and 1.5kW motor, this model has a top speed of 50 km/h and a range of 60 km.
All Silence e-moto scooters feature a step-through frame, simple twist-and-go throttle and front and rear brake levers. All models come with a selection of driving modes (ECO, City and added Sport mode on the S01 and S02) as well as a reverse gear.
They also come with a Silence app, for Apple and Android devices. These allow you to locate, check, and even lock or unlock your smart scooter from your phone. Through the app you are also able to plan and follow routes with Google Maps, so you are always on the best route and never lost.
For now, Silence scooters are only offered in Europe. Though the removable battery with its own cart is certainly an innovative idea we wish more electric scooter makers could integrate.
