New contractor expected to finish PH2 of CAVITEX-C5 Link Segment 2

If you’re from Las Pinas or Cavite and frequently travel along CAVITEX, you have probably noticed that the interchange (flyover) works shortly before the toll plaza seems to be at a standstill and there is little to no work being done and traffic build-up is always certain especially during rush hour because of the occupied lanes of the supposed construction works.

Now, we may see construction progress as Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and the concession holder for the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) and its C5 Link segment, signs a deal with the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) to construct Phase 2 works at the CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 2.

“The CAVITEX C5 Link is a vital segment of the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway Project (MCTEP), so far, we managed to open 3.8-kilometer (Segment 3A1 and 3A2) to the motoring public, serving more than 16,000 vehicles daily. Still, we have a long way to go. This is something we cannot do alone, hence our search for a contractor that would be up for the task-delivering world-class quality infrastructure for our motorists within our timeline. We are glad that our new partner China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) took on the challenge,” said Raul Ignacio, President and General Manager of CIC.

CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 2 is a 1.9-kilometer, 2×3 lane expressway that will connect CAVITEX R-1 (Coastal Rd.) from Paranaque Toll Plaza to Sucat thru R-1 Interchange. It is expected to reduce travel time to Sucat Road from CAVITEX R-1 and vice versa by 10 minutes.

CRBC is a pioneer in the international engineering contracting market in China and is in the industry for almost 60 years. CRBC has been in the Philippines for nearly 30 years and has done numerous projects in different regions and these projects have stimulated the growth of the region with its quality and on-time construction. The Central Luzon Link Expressway (CLLEX) Phase 1 Package 2, the Estrella- Pantaleon and Binondo-Intramuros Bridge are among them.

CIC and CRBC target to start phase 2 of the construction for the CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 2 this Q1 of 2023 and aims to open it to the public before the end of the year.
