The annual DGR Sunday formal ride moving to May

Since it was first started in 2012, the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) has always been held on the last Sunday of September. It has been this way for 9 long years, everywhere around the world, regardless of the season.

Unfortunately, 2020 and the pandemic have forced the event to tweak its typical formula. Earlier this year, DGR organizers encouraged participants to ride solo or in smaller groups in observance of physical distancing protocols. While the change in format was warmly welcomed and still managed to raise a large amount for its cause, Movember, the organizers have realized the irreplaceable value that riding as a community brings.

As such, to celebrate 10 years of the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, the organizers are hoping to bring back this critical aspect. To serve as a more favorable date, regardless of the location or season the rider is in, DGR is permanently moving to May.

In 2021, the 10th DGR will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2021. The new May date will be favorable to riders in the Northern Hemisphere, while those in the Southern Hemisphere will still be able to keep relatively dry and enjoy the day.

“This is a significant change that has been decided on due to overwhelming feedback from our riders and volunteer hosts from around the world, based on the impact that the weather has had on the safety of our events in recent years,” DGR organizers said in a statement.

Local volunteer hosts and their teams are already working to organize rides on this new date in May. Registration for the DGR 2021 open starting in late-March.

“So, don’t put your tweed away just yet, you’ll need it again to ride dapper for men’s health on May 23rd, 2021! Put that date in your calendars, and prepare to celebrate 10 years of DGR. We’re working on making it the biggest year yet, and are determined to be able to celebrate this occasion in true dapper style!”
