DPWHThe Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) hopes to improve the road connecting the towns of Coron and Busuanga with additional lanes. DPWH recently announced that they will widen the Coron-Busuanga Road from two-lanes into four-lanes.
According to Regional Director, Wilfredo Mallari of DPWH Region 4B, the project is currently being undertaken to improve access to the famous tourist destinations located in both locales.
“A P100 million widening project of Coron-Busuanga Road is already ongoing to meet the high demand of tourists from F.B. Reyes International Airport in Busuanga going to Coron town proper and vice versa. Once completed, this will result in improved road safety and traffic flow especially during summer peak season,” said Mallari.
Despite already having PhP 100 million in funding, a total of PhP 2.26 billion will be needed in order to fully complete the widening project for the said road. Mallari is hopeful that funding for the project will continue as this will support Coron's tourism industry.
“Better roads will also provide convenience to locals especially small-scale traders transporting agricultural and fishery products to bigger markets,” added Mallari.
The Coron-Busuanga road stretches 73.6-kilometers in total.
