On the morning of January 7, 2022, a 23-year-old man robbed a bank at gunpoint in Hai Phong City, Vietnam. The man, later identified as Van Nam Nguyen, walked away with VND 3.5-billion – or roughly PHP 7.867-million.

Unfortunately for Van Nam, it seems that he’s not the smartest thief on the planet because the next day after his daring heist, he decided to splurge his stash for a brand-new Kawasaki ZX-10R sportbike.

The thief, who might have thought that no one would recognize him because of the ongoing face mask requirement due to COVID-19, happily posed on the dealer’s ceremonial handover photo ops, which the latter posted on social media for marketing purposes.

The police, on the other hand, were able to recognize Van Nam when they compared the CCTV footage from the bank and the ceremonial ZX-10R handover post. Van Nam was arrested on January 9 – barely two days after the bank robbery incident.

The police also found the new bike, the gun that Van Nam used during the robbery, and the remaining stash of money still in his possession.

World's dumbest criminal, perhaps?
