Six months ago, MotoPinas.com broke the news on the Philippines' solo bid for the 2020 BMW Motorrad International GS Trophy. For the first time, BMW Philippines hopes to field an all-Pinoy team to compete against power-houses of the USA, Canada, South Africa and many more national teams. Just recently, the Visayas – Mindanao leg of the qualifiers concluded, with 3 riders from Davao topping the 14 hopefuls from Visayas and Mindanao (Vis-Min).
It was not a walk in the park for Hope Ferolin, Pietro Jaldon, and Shawn Lim during the 2-day qualifiers held at the Crocodile Farm in the King City of the South, as they tried to complete obstacles and exercises together with their 250-kilogram GS Adventure bike.
After their triumph, they will only have a brief period to prepare for September 8's GS Trophy National Qualifiers. There, they will face the best of Luzon, who will have their own eliminations between September 6 and 7.
Finalists from each of these regional qualifiers will face off against each other in the national qualifiers on September 8. Only the top three from the national qualifiers will be selected to form the Philippine contingent.
The Philippine contingent will then face South East Asia's finest in Malaysia on September 21 to 22. If the 'RP Team' becomes successful, we will then join the rest of the world for the 2020 International GS Trophy in New Zealand.
