When Triumph revealed the limited-edition Rocket 3 TFC this year, we saw the motorcycle receive a displacement upgrade from 2,249 cc to 2,500 cc. This hinted at the next-generation Rocket getting the same treatment, which has turned out to be the case. The 2020 Rocket 3 is powered by a massive water-cooled, 2,458 cc DOHC inline triple that makes 167 PS at 6,000 rpm and 221 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Off the bat, Triumph didn’t launch just one Rocket 3, but two trims: the Rocket 3 R and Rocket 3 GT.
Both muscle bikes share an all-new aluminum frame, adjustable 47 mm Showa inverted forks with 120 mm of travel, a fully adjustable piggyback rear shock with 107 mm of travel, dual 320 mm front discs, a single 300 mm rear disc, Brembo Stylema brakes, traction control, and cornering ABS. The 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 has a seat height of 750 mm, dry weight of 294 kg, and tank capacity of 18 L. Lightweight components have shaved 40 kg off the new-generation Rocket 3.
The 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 also comes with hill start assist, cruise control, keyless ignition, USB charging socket, and Google-powered navigation. The second-generation TFT display comes with additional readouts, including a fuel gauge, personalized startup screen, gear position indicator, service indicator, ambient temperature, clock, and more. There are four riding modes: Rain, Road, Sport, and Rider-Configurable. A bluetooth connectivity module, GoPro control system, tire pressure monitoring system, are optional.
The Rocket 3 R is a pure roadster, while the Rocket 3 GT comes with additional touring features for long-distance comfort. For instance, the cruiser-style GT’s foot pegs are positioned forward, its handlebars are longer and swept back, its pillion seat comes with a backrest, and it receives heated grips as standard.
The 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 R is available in two colors: Korosi Red and Phantom Black. The Rocket 3 GT is available in Silver Ice with Storm Grey, or Phantom Black. Pricing has yet to be announced as these motorcycles will roll out of showrooms come November.
