Traveling to Baguio City and beyond has now become a lot faster, especially for riders of 400cc and above motorcycles, as the Sison-Rosario segment of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEx) has been temporarily opened to the public just in time for the holidays.
The new 4-kilometer segment will be opened temporarily, and for light vehicles only, from December 15 until January 2020. It will be closed again to make way for improvements and finishing touches.
Toll fees (for the Sison-Rosario segment) will be waived during its temporary opening. San Miguel Corporation plans to make the Sison-Rosario segment fully operational by February 2020.
Further in the future, it is also planning to extend TPLEx further north, all the way to the town of San Fernando and surf town, San Juan, La Union. In La Union, it will be divided into three section segments, namely: Rosario to Tubao, Tubao to Naguilian, and Naguilian to San Juan.
SMC's long term vision is to link the TPLEx to Laoag in Ilocos Norte. The details, like completion dates, have yet to be finalized.
