Prepare to shell out more starting friday

For riders of 400cc and above motorcycles, prepare to shell out more for toll fees when passing by the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway or SCTEx, as the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) approved new toll rate adjustments which will take effect at 12:01 AM, June 14, 2019. The toll rate increase came after the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) filed a petition for toll rate adjustments that was originally submitted way back in 2011. With it, the SCTEX will now collect an additional Php 0.51 per kilometer.

Under the new toll fare matrix, Class 1 vehicles traveling from Mabalacat City (Mabiga Interchange) to Tarlac will now pay an extra Php 20 (Php 104 to Php 124). As for motorists traveling from Mabalacat to Tipo in Subic, SCTEX will now charge an extra Php 32 (Php 195 to Php 227)for Class 1.

In review, the SCTEX has maintained its toll rates since 2011. However, through the years, both the BCDA and the NLEX Corporation have invested in various enhancement projects in order to maintain safer motoring, as well as better convenience. Perhaps one of the most important upgrades the expressway received is the unified toll collection between NLEX and SCTEX. In addition, the entire stretch of the SCTEX between Tarlac and Tipo underwent a massive asphalt pavement overlay in 2017 for a smoother and quieter ride. Finally, both the Tipo and Mabiga interchanges now have more toll lanes in order to make transactions faster.
