Yamaha announces RayZR 125 EU availability

Back in July of last year, Suzuki launched the Avenis 125 – touted as a “muscular sporty scooter” by the company and has had a strong following in the Indian domestic market (IDM) since 2021.

Speaking of the IDM, Suzuki’s Avenis, along with the NTORQ 125, has a “brother from another mother” from Yamaha – the RayZR 125 – and it’s coming to European dealerships in March 2024.

Here in the country, manufacturers don’t usually release units that have design similarities with their competitors. In the IDM, however, they do things a bit differently.

One example is the visual similarity between Yamaha’s RayZR (rey-zer) 125 and the Suzuki Avenis 125. On the front facia, the headlight has a striking resemblance on both scooters, while the signal lights only differ a bit on where they were placed.

The floorboard and legroom also look similar, while the front and rear wheels of both scooters sport 12-inch and 10-inch rims.

Both scooters are powered by an air-cooled SOHC engine. The only difference is that the RayZR has a 1cc bigger bore than the Avenis. The seat height for both scooters is practically the same at 785mm and 780mm, respectively, while their fuel tank capacities are the same at 5.2 liters each.

The RayZR 125 is slightly lighter than Suzuki’s Avenis, at 99kg vs 106kg (dry) for the latter.

According to Yamaha, the IDM-based RayZR 125 will become available in Europe starting March 2024, with an engine start/stop feature that reduces fuel consumption by up to 4%. PH availability and pricing, are yet to be announced by Yamaha Philippines – if they’ll be adding the RayZR to their existing Mio lineup.
