The Phantom returns

Suzuki has just taken the wraps off the newest version of the GSX-R1000R, the Phantom special edition. As the name suggests, it's an all black model, limited to the United Kingdom. This special model is a tribute to the Suzuki GSX-R1000 K6 Phantom from 2006, limited to just 200 units. According to Suzuki, the new Phantom is the “most advanced, most exciting GSX-R in history, with an aggressive new look to match.”

Features

This GSX-R1000R Phantom boasts of a potent 1000cc inline-four-cylinder, DOHC engine that produces a whopping 202 Ps of power at 13,200 rpm, with 117.6 Nm of torque generated at 10,800 rpm. This engine’s electronic management system was derived from Suzuki's experience in MotoGP racing, thus, promising maximum drivability on the road while at the same time a capable track machine. Its exhaust system also comes with a Yoshimura race-spec end.

Additionally, the Phantom is equipped with a new and compact chassis with a bolt-on rear subframe made of aluminum. This makes the chassis 38% lighter than its predecessor.

Taking on the road's bumps is a pair of Showa BFF (balance free front) forks and BFRC (balance free rear cusion) rear shock absorbers, which according to Suzuki, was developed for racing. Stopping power is handled by a pair of new Brembo four-piston calipers, while the floating disc is now 10mm larger than the previous model at 320mm. Each disc features a hybrid mounting system using a 50/50 combination of 5 conventional spring-loaded floating pin mounts and 5 Brembo T-drive floating mounts. The GSX-R1000’s Brembo radial-mount, monobloc front brake calipers each use braided hoses and have four 32 mm pistons working with a radial pump, 19 mm master cylinder. The rear brake system uses a single-piston caliper and a 220 mm disc.

As expected of Suzuki’s flagship bikes, the GSX-R1000R Phantom is also loaded with state-of-the-art rider aids that were developed from the company’s 30+ years of experience making the Gixxer. These include Motion Track Brake System, Motion Track TCS (Traction Control System), Suzuki Drive Mode Selector, Launch Control and a Bi-Directional Quick Shift System.
