The idea of linking Batangas and Mindoro through a mega bridge has been proposed many years ago but the technology, and most importantly, the funding for such a gargantuan project is not available. Now, this proposal may soon become a reality.
San Miguel Corporation, headed by its CEO, Ramon S. Ang (RSA), has announced that the company is in the initial works toward building a 15-kilometer mega bridge that will connect Batangas and Mindoro island.
“We have started bringing together global experts across disciplines, including a European architectural and engineering firm to do a technical feasibility study on how the bridge can be built sustainably to benefit both people and the environment,” said RSA.

The project, which is included in the ten programs of the Marcos Administration for public-private partnership (PPP), was first proposed by Oriental Mindoro Cong. Alfonso Umali in 2015. Now, Oriental Mindoro Governor, Bonz Dolor is pushing for the project to spur growth and development not only for his constituents but also for the entire MIMAROPA region.
RSA also added that since his last meeting with Gov. Dolor late last year, SMC has tapped the services of a local bathymetric surveying company to measure water depth. SMC added that the bridge is planned to take off from Barangay Ilijan, Batangas City, passing Verde Island, and will land at Barangay Sinandigan, Puerto Galera, near Sabang Beach.
“We thank Gov. Dolor for pursuing this game-changing project and considering our company to be able to deliver a world-class bridge. It has faced a series of setbacks over the years but we hope that together we can finally bring the vision to fruition,” added RSA.
