Street pay parking suspended

Last week, newly-elected Mayor Francis Zamora imposed a new no parking policy along several streets in San Juan in an effort to decongest traffic as well as free up road space. With it, parking along the roads near Greenhills Shopping Center is no longer allowed from 6:00 AM until 9:00 PM.

Now, the 41-year-old Mayor has ordered the suspension of pay parking along all streets in San Juan. This comes after the Metro Manila Council met last July 25 to address traffic problems in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Not only that, the Department of Interior & Local Government (DILG) has given Metro Manila Mayors until September to reclaim all public roads from all types of obstructions, illegal parking and other private uses. This was done in compliance with President Duterte's call to ease up traffic in the metro.

Under Executive Order FMZ-007, both sides of the following streets are now deemed as 'no parking zones': Annapolis Street, Eisenhower Street, Club Filipino Avenue, Connecticut Street, Missouri Street, Xavier Street, Grant Street, Washington Street, Madison Street, Pinaglabanan Street (near Filoil Flying V Center), Santolan Road (near Filoil Flying V Center), and all other streets in San Juan that offer street pay parking.

Anyone caught violating the new no parking policy will be apprehended, issued a citation ticket, and will have their vehicles towed at the owners' expense.

With just about one month to go before the deadline, members of the Metro Manila Council have been busy of late clearing up public roads in order to adhere to the President and DILG's directives.

The new policy will take effect starting on August 5, 2019.
