It was 2019 when Royal Enfield’s ‘twins’ – the Interceptor and Continental GT – arrived here in the Philippines and were immediately met with a lot of positive reviews. Perhaps the crowning glory of these two bikes is the (then) newly-developed 650cc twin-cylinder engine that has a characteristic comparable to the smoother-running Japanese-made engines.
After four years, the twins will be receiving their first model update dubbed the “Thunder and Lightning”.
Thunder
The new Thunder is based on the Royal Enfield Continental GT and will receive some modifications to improve the bike’s touring performance.
The updates include removable soft panniers, a softer touring seat for rider and pillion, an engine guard, oil sump guard, fly screen, and stylish CNC-milled bar end mirrors.
Lightning
If there’s thunder, then there’s Lightning. This, on the other hand, is based on the Interceptor and has also been upgraded by the folks in Chennai with soft panniers, a softer touring seat for rider and pillion, engine guard, oil sump guard, fly screen, touring side mirrors and stylish CNC-milled oil filler cap.
Availability
Both the Thunder and Lightning will be available in monotone, two-tone, and chrome color schemes, with prices starting at around USD 7,800 or roughly PHP 430,000 (PH duties and taxes not included). Availability is yet to be announced by Royal Enfield Pilipinas.
