Look out for what roads to avoid

It's a long weekend ahead, and most likely as a motorcycle rider, you can't wait to finally hop on your motorcycle and ride straight to your favorite destination. For many, Baguio City is a popular destination, especially with the opening of Pozorrubio Exit of the TPLEx, making travel to the City of Pines faster than ever for big bikes.

However, recent inclement weather has badly damaged some of the major roads that lead up to Baguio. On an advisory published by the Department of Public Works and Highways – Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWW – CAR), the agency has warned the public to avoid these roads for the meantime while they are trying to fix and move away debris caused by landslides. 

Below are the roads to avoid when going up to Baguio City and the rest of the Cordilleras: 

Closed to Traffic:

Kennon Road

All motorists are advised to take Marcos Highway, Naguilian Road or the Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual Road.

Baguio-Bontoc Road

Avoid K0362+680 to K0362+780 Busa section in Sabangan, Mountain Province due to a road cut. Alternate route: Nacagang-Abatan-Bauko-Maba-ay Provincial Road.

Tawang-Ambiong Road

K0263+850 to K0263+900 in Barangay Ambiong, La Trinidad, Benguet due to road cut.

Kiangan-Tinoc-Buguias Road

K0350+600 to K0350+635 in Gumhang, Tinoc, Ifugao due to soil collapse. Clearing operations still underway.

Benguet-Vizcaya Road

K0283+700 to K0283+716 in Sitio Sombrero, Ambuclao, Bokod, Benguet due to road slip.

K0291+200 Sitio Inidian, Barangay Ambuclao Bokod, Benguet due to soil erosion. Clearing operations underway.

Baguio-Bontoc Road

K0270+100 to K0270+110 in Caliking, Atok due to soil collapse. Clearing operations to resume upon the availability of heavy equipment.

K0277+250 to K077+265 in Caliking, Atok due to soil collapse. Clearing operations to resume upon the availability of heavy equipment.

K0277+600 to K0277+630 in Caliking, Atok due to soil collapse. Clearing operations to resume upon the availability of heavy equipment.

K0300+800 to K0300+900 in Cattubo, Atok due to sinking section. Back-filling works on-going.

K0318+190 to K0318+244 Palida, Amgaleyguey, Buguias, Benguet due to the settlement of embankment materials. Back-filling works on-going.

K0323+010 to K0323+025 in Pilando, Buguias due to soil collapse and sinking pavement. Clearing operations and back-filling works on-going.

Abra-Kalinga Road

A portion in Nalbuan, Baay-Licuan, Abra due to debris flow. Clearing operations are hampered due to continuous soil collapse.

A portion in Subuagan, Baay-Licuan, Abra due to soil and rock collapse. Clearing operations are hampered due to continuous soil collapse.

A portion in Gacab, Malibcong due to soil erosion. Clearing operations is hampered due to continuous soil collapse.
