Pre-war bikes and a Moto Guzzi

They may not be known for riding motorcycles, but chances are, you’ve probably heard of the trio of Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond. The three were hosts of popular automotive TV shows, Top Gear and The Grand Tour. While Jeremy and James stuck mostly to four wheels, Richard Hammond has shown to have quite an interest in motorcycles.

Over the years, he’s managed to build up quite a collection, which includes some very rare motorcycles. Unfortunately, some of these are now going up for auction to support his new business venture, The Smallest Cog. It’s a classic vehicle restoration business that will be documented in Richard Hammond’s Workshop (working title), a brand-new original docuseries airing on Discovery+ UK later this year.

“The irony of me supporting my new classic car restoration business by selling some of my own classic car collection is not wasted on me,” said Hammond. He went on to add “It is with a very heavy heart that they go, as they have a great deal of personal sentimental value, but they will be funding the future development of the business and giving life back to countless other classic vehicles.”

Several of the classics are personal favorites of Hammond, with classic and limited-edition motorcycles he bought himself for his 40th and 50th birthdays on offer, as well as a much-loved family heirloom in the 1959 Bentley S2.

Perhaps the most notable motorcycles are a 1927 Sunbeam Model 2, a 1932 Velocette KSS Mk1, a 1976 Kawasaki Z900 A4, a 2019 Norton Dominator 961 Street Limited Edition, and a highly collectable 1977 Moto Guzzi Le Mans Mk1. Among the cars are a 1959 Bentley S2, a 1969 Porsche 911T, and a 1999 Lotus Esprit 350. In case you have the deep pockets to bid, the entire collection is being offered without reserve.
