MC taxi operation to be discussed by Presidential cabinet

The President's cabinet will soon discuss whether motorcycle taxis should be allowed to resume operations once again. This was relayed by Presidntial Spokesperson Harry Roque, who welcomed the possible resumption of MC taxi operations under the “new normal”.

"I think that would be something that can be agreed upon on the basis of consensus in the upcoming full Cabinet meeting," Roque said, referring to the government's plan to improve public transportation amid the pandemic.

The Inter-Agency Task Force on the Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has already endorsed the resumption of the program to the House of Representatives Committee on Transportation.

"The recommendation [was] to ensure adequate mass transportation for health workers and general workers as we open up more economy and to empower citizens to regain their livelihood and sustainable incomes," said Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., duing the virtual launching of the "Ingat Angat Tayong Lahat" campaign. Galvez is the National Policy against Covid-19 chief implementer.

"We also welcome the further contributions on how to improve the transportation sector," Roque said, as he cited various forms of assistance offered by the private sector to the government in order to respond to the pandemic.
