New road higher by more than 500 feet

Time to plan another road trip. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently identified a new highest point in the Philippine highway system. It is now located in the Municipality of Tinoc, Ifugao along the Kiangan-Tinoc-Buguias Road. The announcement was made by the Department of Tourism.

According to the DPWH, field assessments were conducted along the said road in January 2019 by the representatives from the Planning Service of DPWH Head Office, DPWH-CAR, and Ifugao 1st DEO. The new highest point now boasts of an elevation of 7,968.07 feet (2,428.66 meters) above sea level. It is higher than the previous highest point in Atok, Benguet by 568.07 feet (173.14 meters).

The former highest point, measuring at 7,400 feet above sea level, has served as a popular tourist spot for motorists and riders alike, thanks to its ideal location between the two tourist spots of Baguio and Sagada, as well as the scenic vistas it offers.

No doubt, this new highest point will draw tourists to the new area.
