Staying true to their word, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) began allowing the 3-year registration of brand new motorcycles with 200cc and below displacement. Memorandum Circular No. JMT-2023-2395 became effective on May 15, 2023.
According to LTO, more than a thousand brand-new motorcycles with 200cc and below displacement have been registered in the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) during its first day of implementation.
“Using the LTMS for the registration of these brand new motorcycles demonstrates how both the agency and the public benefit from the digitalization of LTO's frontline services. We must maintain this momentum and expand it to make services for the public easier, simpler, and more convenient,” says LTO chief, Atty. Jayart Tugade.
Tugade, in an earlier statement, stressed that the agency sees no issues with 200cc and below motorcycles with 3-year registrations when it comes to roadworthiness since these are still practically brand-new. Prior to the implementation of Memorandum Circular No. JMT-2023-2395, only brand new motorcycles with 201cc and above displacement are allowed by the agency for a 3-year initial registration.
