License of policeman doing stunts on public road recommended for suspension

Last week, a video of a motorcycle rider doing a wheelie along the stretch of Cebu’s Trans-Central Highway (TCH) immediately went viral. In the video, the rider almost crashed his motorcycle into an oncoming vehicle after his stunt failed.

The video has reached the office of Regional Highway Patrol Unit (RHPU)-7 chief, Lt. Col. Joel Manuel Ana, who then endorsed the incident to the Land Transportation Office Region 7.

LTO Region 7 immediately issued a show cause order to the rider, who was identified as a police officer assigned to the PNP Regional Intelligence Unit-7.

LTO Region 7 director, Victor Caindec, said that a subpoena was already issued to the erring rider and was ordered to appear before his office for investigation. The rider will be asked to explain why his driver’s license should not be suspended for being reckless.

“We will recommend to suspend [his driver’s license],” said Caindec.

The video, which was uploaded on social media, shows the rider doing a wheelie at around 10:00 AM, July 10, 2022, in Brgy. Gaas, Balamban, Cebu.

The next day, July 11, 2022, the rider voluntarily appeared before RHPU-7 and voluntarily surrendered his motorcycle which appears to be a Honda CRF 300L.

Lt. Col. Ana added that the rider’s stunt was an obvious violation of RA 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, citing Article 5, Section 48 (reckless driving).
