Mendoza orders information drive amid aggressive ‘No Registration, No Travel’

Since 2023, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has been very busy on its campaign against vehicles with expired registrations. Now, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II has ordered all Regional Directors and District Office heads to intensify the conduct of an information drive on the “No Registration, No Travel” policy to encourage more delinquent vehicle owners to renew the registration of their motor vehicles.

According to Mendoza, the information drive will help with the agency’s aggressive operations against vehicles with expired registrations, and it should also compel owners to renew the registration, explaining that registration and renewal of registration are some of the best ways to check the roadworthiness of vehicles.

“As much as possible, we don’t want to apprehend motorists because it means hefty fines await them, on top of the penalties associated with the late registration,” said Mendoza.

Under the guidance of Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista, the LTO is targeting the registration of as many delinquent owners to register. Currently, there are around 24.7 million delinquent motor vehicles and this represents around 65% of all the vehicles in the Philippines.

Currently, several LTO Regional Offices and District Offices have started intensifying the operations on “No Registration, No Travel”, among them are Bicol Region, Mimaropa and the National Capital Region. Mendoza also lauded some LTO officials in the provinces for coordinating with the local police offices and local government units in the conduct of joint operations for “No Registration, No Travel” policy.

Mendoza said he would leave the local LTO officials to come up with their own information drive strategies, saying they are in the best position to determine the appropriate messaging in their respective localities.

But he reminded them to use social media platforms to reach as many people, particularly motor vehicle owners.
