The KYMCO Xciting 300i and Like 150i enter the Philippine market

On November 28, 2018 Kwang Yang Motor Company (KYMCO) held the local reveal of the Taiwanese brand’s snazzy new scooters for 2019: the sporty Xciting 300i, retro Like 150i ABS, and a higher-spec version of the latter equipped with Noodoe connectivity.

The 2019 KYMCO Xciting 300i is the company’s maxi scooter powered by a 299cc single-cylinder claiming 29.8 PS at 7,750 rpm and 30.1 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm. KYMCO has packed the Xciting 300i with modern features like LED lighting, Bosch ABS as standard for both front and rear, a 12v charger, and a multi-functional digital instrument panel.

The Xciting 300i rolls on a 14-inch front wheel with a 260 mm disc and a 13-inch rear wheel with a 240 mm disc — while telescopic forks and dual rear shocks with adjustable preload manage the ride. It has a short wheelbase that affords maneuverability through the urban jungle, a seat height of 800 mm, underseat storage, and fuel capacity of 11 L. The 2019 Xciting 300i can be bought in either Matte White or Matte Black for ₱239,900.

The 2019 KYMCO Like 150i ABS is the all-new iteration of KYMCO’s popular and well-reviewed retro scooter, with modern performance and Vespa-esque styling. Its new 150cc single-cylinder achieves a boost of 1.9 PS and now makes 13.5 PS at 9,000 rpm with 12.5 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The updated engine also gets improved valve train friction reduction and a lightweight cylinder head. The 2019 Like 150i ABS features a fully digital dash, telescopic forks, dual rear shocks, 12-inch wheels with 220 mm discs on both ends, and Bosch ABS as standard. It is available in three colors: Bright Red, Pearly White, and Deep Blue Metallic for ₱98,900.

The higher-spec Like 150i ABS smart scooter comes equipped with Noodoe technology, which features Bluetooth connectivity with KYMCO’s mobile app which can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play. The system allows you to choose a photo, which it’ll greet you with when you start it up. KYMCO has given it Noodoe Navigation maps which cover the Philippines and will be updated with an Internet connection. KYMCO says they should work while offline, without mobile data coverage.

Noodoe Navigation allows the rider to input up to five destinations on a smartphone, receive “At-a-Glance Directions” through the smart scooter’s dash, view overhead maps, and receive “Street-Countdown” indications for upcoming turns. The Noodoe system went live in 2018 in markets all around the globe. The 2019 KYMCO Like 150i ABS with Noodoe is available in one color, Matte Silver Crystal, for ₱119,900.

KYMCO Philippines staged the event at I’M Hotel in Makati City with a short introduction of the brand’s history as a previous manufacturer of Honda two-wheelers. The Kaohsiung, Taiwan-based company was founded in 1963 and has been exporting its vehicles since 1992. A question-and-answer session was held with a panel including Mark Lin (Marketing Manager), Jacinto Cadugo (Vice General Manager in Sales and Marketing), Frank Yang (President of KYMCO Philippines), and Manny Chang (Chairman of KYMCO Philippines).
