Austrian brand, KTM, to revisit scooter roots with possible electric model

Many know KTM as a brand specializing in endure, dual sport, and adventure motorcycles. The brand also builds sport bikes, as well as an automobile. That product portfolio could soon be expanded with the addition of an electric scooter.

Scooters aren’t new to KTM, in fact, they made some in the long-forgotten past. However, it seems KTM plans to return to the segment with a new electric version.

It’s new, smallest offering could be an electric scooter. It shouldn’t come as a surprise as the segment has been growing globally. What has got us excited is that this new product will still offer KTM’s distinctive design hallmarks, like the angular body panels, futuristic looks, and orange trellis frame.

KTM is developing an electric scooter image

Chances are, KTM could dust off one of its old concepts — the E-Speed electric scooter concept (pictured above) — first revealed at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. Expect to see some changes to the design as KTM plans to use the platform of the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter. Sister brand, Husqvarna, is expected to make their own version as well.

KTM already has some experience with electric vehicles with its E-XC enduro bike already available. Chances are, it could use a similar electric motor and power pack.

There’s still very little information about it yet, but the thought of a KTM scooter, especially one that looks like this, sounds exciting.
