Supermoto KLX300 SM from Kawasaki up for grabs

Supermoto motorcycles – dirtbikes that were converted to handle the pavement – have been around for the last 30 or so years, yet, these models are not commonly offered in the Philippine market, save for TM Racing’s SMR 450 FI (SRP: PHP 685,000) that we tested more than 3 years ago.

Now, a true production supermoto is available for Filipino enthusiasts, courtesy of Kawasaki.

The new (PH market) KLX300 SM is directly derived from the KLX300 R enduro bike, which was unveiled in 2020. It is powered by the same potent liquid-cooled 292cc, DOHC, fuel-injected engine mated to a 6-speed wide-ratio gearbox.

Like the “R”, the “SM” also boasts long-travel 43mm inverted front forks with adjustable compression and damping, while the rear has a mono-shock absorber with adjustable preload.

Unlike the “R”, however, the “SM” is factory equipped with a smaller rear sprocket for road use, and 17-inch wire wheels (110/70-17 front, 130/70-17 rear IRC tires). Stopping power has been improved for pavement use, thanks to a 300mm floating disc with a dual-piston caliper on the front.

Other features of the KLX300 SM include an LED headlight, a fully digital instrument panel, and a sporty exhaust pipe.

Since the KLX300 SM enjoys 17-inch supermoto wheels, the seat height is not at all intimidating, standing at only 861mm. For comparison, the KLX300 SM’s seat is just a tad bit higher than Yamaha’s NMax 155.
