The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Assistant Secretary, Atty. Jayart Tugade, has resigned as the agency chief. His resignation will be effective June 1, 2023.

In a statement, Tugade cited differences between how LTO and its parent agency, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), wanted to deliver their services to the public.

“Even as DOTr and LTO both aim to succeed in serving the public, our methods to achieve that success differ. For this reason, I am stepping down, so Sec. Jimmy Bautista will have the free hand to choose who he can work best with,” said Tugade in a statement.

Tugade took the helm as LTO’s chief back in November of last year, replacing Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III. Among the agency’s accomplishments under his leadership, was the streamlining of some of LTO’s policies, including the 3-year registration for brand-new 200cc and below motorcycles, online renewal of vehicle registration, removal of Change Venue fee, and removal of the periodic medical exams.

“I will continue to root for the LTO's success even as a private citizen, because I will always share in Sec. Bautista’s belief that our offices can be a formidable force for good in our country,” added Tugade.
