LTO HPG Region 7 gift riders with rice, helmets and gift certificates

For a lot of motorcycle riders, the sight of a PNP-HPG or the LTO patrol car conducting a checkpoint can sometimes be acause for concern. After all, these checkpoints are typically set up to inspect a bike's registrtion, check for unauthorized modifications, and result in confiscated driver’s license and a hefty fine if found in violation.

This was not the case at a recent checkpoint set up by the LTO and the PNP-HPG Region 7 in Cebu.

Over the weekend, motorcycle riders were surprised to encounter a joint LTO and HPG operation in one of Cebu’s major highways. Rather than inspect their papers and motorcycles, riders wred surprised to receive rice and gift certificates. Those still wearing old and dilapidated helmets even got brand new ones.

For those who were caught riding without a valid driver’s license, the LTO issued them scholarships for the agency’s Theoretical Driving Course (TDC) which is now a requirement under the LTO’s new guidelines.
