HJMoto of China has their own Africa Twin

Earlier this year, we were one of the first few to test the capabilities of the then-new Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin (AT). This big adventure bike is powered by a 1,048cc parallel-twin DOHC engine that produces more than a hundred Ps of power and torque. It's priced at PHP 948,000.

Of course, being a large adventure motorcycle with a premium price, it's not something every rider can afford. That might be why one Chinese brand though of creating a more affordable version.

In China, the 2021 China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition (CIMA) has recently wrapped up its 19th edition. The motorcycle event showcases the best motorcycles Chinese brands have to offer. One of the presenters of the show was the Chongquing Hengjian Motorcycle Manufacturing Co., LTD, and one of the models they presented caught our attention: the “Dahaidao 500” motorcycle. In some markets, it's also called the “GS ADV 500.”

Almost immediately, one will notice that there are similarities between the Africa Twin and the Dahaidao 500. The front, as well as the overall aesthetics of the bike resemble Honda's Africa Twin (AT). It also rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tires.

The engine, however, only packs less than half of what the AT has with just 471cc of displacement for its parallel-twin. The engine looks pretty familiar too, with layout and shape similar to a Honda CB 500X or Bristol Venturi 500. It was said that this powerplant is manufactured by Lifan, which is currently one of the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturers and parts suppliers for other motorcycle brands.

While the Dahaidao 500 doesn’t feature advanced electronics or rider aids similar to the AT, it makes up for it by featuring a manually adjustable suspension system. It also has a front camera similar to the Dayang ADV 150 that acts like a dashcam that records your rides. Finally, there's an underseat fuel tank that should improve the bike’s low center of gravity.

Will it be sold here in the PH?

As of this writing, we have reached out to our friends who import Chinese-made motorcycles and so far, none have confirmed if one of them will import the Dahaidao 500. If ever, this could be a nice motorcycle to have especially for those who want an adventure bike but are on a tight budget.
