Built with aluminum and lightweight composites

Harley-Davidson, after pummeling the world with ambitious announcements about its radical future, recently unveiled the 2019 FXDR 114, the most performance-oriented and weight-saving Softail yet. This American drag-inspired dragon is built around the Softail platform but adopts unapologetic modern styling, performance enhancements, and lightweight aluminum and composites. Harley-Davidson, now in its 115th year, built the 2019 FXDR as a big, proud power cruiser.

Harley-Davidson has been enjoying stripping down its iconic Softail range; from the touring-outfitted Sport Glide and Heritage Classic to the nostalgic Fat Boy, Low Rider, and more. The brand also offers the aggressive Fat Bob and the back-to-basics Street Bob. Its newest addition to the Softail lineup is the lightweight, sporting FXDR 114 for the most hawkish of hell-raisers.

The 2019 Harley-Davidson FXDR 114 is, of course, powered by the larger 1,870cc Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-twin which explodes with 161 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. It is built around the Softail chassis, but foregoes a lot of the steel, instead opting for an aluminum swingarm and a welded aluminum tube subframe. Its tail section and fenders are now made of lightweight composites. We imagine that adding a Screamin' Eagle titanium muffler and Pro Street Tuner kit to this bike would make it even crazier.

The FXDR 114 also gets premium suspension in the form of 43mm inverted forks and a preload-adjustable rear coilover. All the power is kept in check by dual 300 mm front discs with a 4-piston fixed caliper, a 2-piston floating rear unit with a single 292 mm rotor, and ABS. Michelin Scorcher rubber (120 mm in front and 240 mm out back) wraps the Ace cast aluminum wheels (19-inch, split 5-spoke front wheel with an 18-inch, solid disc rear wheel) finished in Gloss and Satin Black with orange graphics.

The rider sits on a deep solo saddle and grabs the aluminum handlebars to pilot the 2019 FXDR 114, which can achieve the greatest lean angle of all the Softails (32.6° left and 32.8° right). The motorcycle features all-around LED lighting, an LCD display, keyless ignition, an H-D Smart Security System, and a USB charging port. It has a fuel capacity of 16.7 L, a ground clearance of 134.6 mm, a wet weight of 303 kg, and a low laden seat height of 703.6 mm.
