Bultaco bikes sees distribution to the Philippines in limited quantities

Bultaco was once a Spanish manufacturer of two-stroke motorcycles from the ‘50s up to the ‘80s. The company returned in 2014, reinvented to offer electric-powered street bikes designed in Madrid and built in Barcelona. Cuatro Hermanos Bikes and Parts Inc. have acquired exclusive distribution of Bultaco’s unique machines, with the first batch of the Bultaco Brinco R to arrive in the Philippines next month.

The 2016 Brinco R is the sportiest of Bultaco’s current range of electric bikes. Built from the ground up, the well-reviewed trail bike is a brand new and innovative machine; unique components have made it more than just a converted mountain bike, and everything we’ve heard about it so far makes it sound like one of the most capable and well-balanced rides of its genre. Some electric bicycles may feel sketchy at speed on a single track, but the Brinco R remains stable.

The Bultaco Brinco R is built around a high-strength aluminum frame. A twist of the wrist unleashes the power of its rear hub-mounted, 2,000-watt (2.7 PS), three-phase brushless AC motor — fed by a removable 1.3 kWh lithium-ion matrix battery cell. Range varies with riding modes: Eco gives you 100 km, Tour 75 km, and Sport up to 50 km. From empty, the battery takes 3 hours to recharge fully. Independent pedals can be used in combination with the electric motor, making the bike resemble a high-performance pedelec of sorts. The Brinco R comes with nine derailleur gears and an overdrive function, while a power control button allows you to maintain constant power levels.

Suspension is adjustable and is taken care of by stout, inverted front forks with 180 mm of travel and a mono shock with 217 mm of travel. 203 mm single discs brake the Brinco R’s 24-inch wheels and 3-inch wide knobby tires. A Bultaco app is available with Bluetooth connectivity features like geo-tracking, a remaining power readout, and anti-theft measures. The electric mountain bike weighs 39 kg, wheelbase is measured at 1200 mm, and saddle height is adjustable from 1061-1164 mm. It includes digital instrumentation with multiple indicators, a headlight, side mirror, license plate holder, side stand, and a horn.

Cuatro Hermanos Bikes and Parts Inc. is bringing the first batch of the Brinco R into the Philippines next month in June and only a couple have yet to be spoken for. The next shipping has been announced for August or September. Cuatro Hermanos is planning to supply the Philippine market with more Bultaco bikes, bringing their relationship with the Spanish brand into the future — for as long as the market is ripe, and the local response has been promising so far.
