Ducati marks the end of the illustrious Panigale line with the 1299 Panigale R Final Edition and the tag line. Combining features from the Panigale, Panigale R, and Superleggera, the Final Edition pays tribute to the Panigale range’s racing history. The farewell is expected to signal the end of the Panigale’s V-twin entry into the World Superbike Championship (WSBK), as a test mule of its probable V4 replacement was recently spied.

The 1299 Panigale R Final Edition’s engine is a lightweight version of the liquid-cooled 1285cc Superquadro L-twin — featuring titanium connecting rods and valves, using a balanced crankshaft, and mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Power output is rated at 209 PS at 11,000 rpm with 142 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm. The oversquare motor shares some upgraded components with that of the Superleggera, sans some titanium and aluminum parts used in assembly. It serves as a stressed member in the bike’s structure, integrated into the Panigale R’s homologated die-cast aluminum monocoque. The Final Edition also receives a homologated, full titanium exhaust by Akrapovič.

The Final Edition gets fully adjustable suspension care of 43mm Öhlins NIX30 inverted front forks, and an Öhlins TTX36 rear shock with an aluminum single-sided swingarm. The motorcycle runs on 17-inch light alloy wheels by Marchesini — forged into W-shaped 3 spokes, and wrapped with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires. Braking is handled by 330mm dual discs up front and Brembo Monobloc M50 4-piston calipers, with a 245mm disc and 2-piston caliper out back.

The special motorcycle rightfully receives an impressive suite of Ducati’s trademarked electronics, trickled down from MotoGP technology. Bosch ABS comes standard with Ducati Quickshift (DQS) and Ducati Traction Control EVO (DTC EVO). There’s full Ride by Wire (RbW), Ducati Wheelie Control EVO (DWC EVO), and Engine Brake Control (EBC). Ducati Data Analyzer (DDA+) uses GPS and lean angle acquisition. Riding modes can be set to Race, Sport, and Wet as well as customized.

The 1299 Panigale R Final Edition weighs in at 190 kg wet, with its 17L fuel tank filled up to 90%. Seat height measures at 830 mm, and wheelbase at 1443 mm.

The 1299 Panigale R Final Edition comes in a collectible Italian color scheme of red, white, and green. It is sold in a numbered series, not at limited quantities. Orders can be made through dealerships by the end of July 2017 starting from an MSRP of $39,900 USD.
