Landslides, mud and flood forces DPWH to close some major roads

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that 7 major roads in north Luzon are closed due to the continued rain brought about by the monsoon (habagat).

According to the DPWH, 7 national road sections are still closed to traffic while 3 are inaccessible to light vehicles.

Road closures were reported in the Cordillera Administrative Region which includes the Kalinga-Abra Road in Bulac, Balbalan, Kalinga and the Mt. Province-Ilocos Sur Road, Beto Section, in Tadian, Mt. Province, both due to landslides.

Quick Response Teams have been mobilized to conduct clearing operations along the affected sections.

The Baguio-Bontoc Road, Abra-Kalinga Road, Abra-Ilocos Norte Road and the Layac Balanga junction at the Mariveles Port Road Zigzag Section in Bataan remain impassable to all types of vehicles.

In Pampanga, the Apalit-Macabebe-Masantol Road, Sto Tomas-Minalin Road (Minalin- Macabebe Section), in Pampanga; and Bigaa Plaridel via Bulacan & Malolos (Panginay Sect.) are still closed to light vehicles due to flooding.

All other national roads and bridges in other affected regions are passable to all types of vehicles as of date.
