Lawmaker files bill seeking 20% discount on toll fees for senior citizens

Earlier this month, Quezon City 4th District representative, Marvin Rillio filed House Bill (HB) 5275 which aims to amend certain provisions of Republic Act 7277, providing a 20% discount on toll fees for PWD motorists.

Now, the same congressman thought that our country’s senior citizens deserve the same privilege, should the bill becomes a law.

“Senior citizens who own motor vehicles deserve special access to skyways and expressways, including a 20% reduction in toll charges,” Rillo said in a news release on Sunday.

Under HB 5277, senior citizen motorists will enjoy a 20% discount on toll charges via RFID or similar devices. “Our measure seeks to give more meaning to the mandate of the 1987 Constitution for the State to prioritize the rights and welfare of the elderly,” Rillo said.

To avail of the discount, the motor vehicle must be registered in the name of the senior citizen, who must submit a copy of his or her ID card to the tollway operator when applying for RFID installation. HB 5277 seeks to further upgrade the Expanded Senior Citizens Law that bestows Filipinos who are 60 years old and above a wide range of perks.
