Meverick American motorcycle company, Buell, will be re-launched this coming November 1, 2021. The company hopes to make a splash by headlining their lineup with the new and improved Hammerhead 1190 superbike.
As a backgrounder, Buell was founded in 1983 by ex-Harley-Davidson (H-D) engineer, Erik Buell. The company started from humble beginnings in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They’ve since grown to become America’s top performance bike manufacturer in just a couple of years.
In 1993, Harley-Davidson acquired a 49% stake in the company and by 2006, it became H-D’s wholly-own subsidiary. Unfortunately, just a few years later in 2009, the Milwaukee-based manufacturer announced the discontinuation of the Buell product line as part of its strategy to focus on the Harley-Davidson brand.
2021 reborn
Earlier this year, Buell announced that they are back in business, this time, with fresh funding from investors. They are set to introduce new models to their lineup. These motorcycles, according to Buell, will be made up of dirt, touring bikes and cruisers. They will also expand their engine lineup.
“When we announced that our future models will include variants for dirt, touring, and cruisers while expanding our engine lineup, we were blown away at the rider response,” said Steve Laham, chief of product development and strategy officer for Buell Motorcycle Company.
For starters, Buell’s reintroduction will start with the Hammerhead 1190. This new Hammerhead is a new and improved version of the 2016 Erik Buell Racing 1190RX, which was a track-only race bike developed by the founder.
The new bike will be powered by a 72-degree liquid-cooled V-twin that produces 187 Ps of power at 10,600 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 8,200 rpm. The best part of this new bike is that it only tips the scales at 190 kilos, making it significantly lighter than the other superbikes in its category.
“I knew Buell was a beloved brand, and now riders are pulling for us! With the Hammerhead going into production, innovative technology and products in our pipeline, and our online reservation system changing the industry, we’re lean, mean and on the move,” added Laham.
The Hammerhead 1190 will be officially launched on November 1st and will be available in Buell heritage racing colors and full-carbon fiber. It was designed in collaboration with motorcycle designer, Ryan Hahn.
