BMW R nineT Heritage line gains 6th member

BMW Motorrad continues to expand the R nineT line with its latest addition, the Urban GS. This latest model pays homage to the original 1980 R80G/S — the first large displacement adventure bike that would become one of the most popular segments today.

Naturally, it integrates its inspiration into its styling. The original’s color concept is reproduced virtually without alteration.

The fuel tank and the high-positioned front mudguard are finished in Light White non-metallic, with a matching headlamp mask. The fuel tank is painted in two tones of blue, while the seat is bright red — both of which are BMW’s trademark Motorsport colors.

To highlight its off-road ability, it adds a dual-section front mudguard: a high front splash guard and a lower rear splash guard just above the front wheel. Riders will find lots of grip on the "bear claw" pegs, while the rear mudguard integrates the LED tail lamp and plate housing.

Propelling it forward is an air/oil-cooled 1170 cc boxer engine, producing 110 hp 116 Nm of torque. It’s then paired to a 6-speed gearbox, and driveshaft to spin the rear wheels.

Keeping it aloft are knobby tires on a 19 inch wire wheel in front and 17 inch wheel at the back. A 43mm fork in front takes care of the bumps while a paralever with monoshock suspends the rear. It is then brought to a stop with twin 320mm discs in front and a 265mm disc in the rear.

Nonetheless, the bike is fitted with ABS as standard. However, Automatic Stability Control can be requested as an option. There’s also the choice of street tires and alloy wheels for a more urban look.

The R nineT Urban GS is priced at PhP 1,120,000 and is available at BMW Motorrad.
