14 years of motorcycles on highways

The 2021 Highway Run was just celebrated early this month, commemorating 14 years of big bikes (with engine displacements of at least 400cc) being allowed on expressways. The event was initiated by the Mad Dog Motorcycle Club, which spearheaded the advocacy to open up the Philippine toll roads to large displacement motorcycles. The petition was granted on September 28, 2007 by the Toll Regulatory Board with the Department of Transportation and Communication (now Department of Transportation DOTr).

Between 6 AM and 10 AM on Saturday, October 2, motorcycle clubs gathered at two venues — at Petron San Pedro Laguna on the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), and at Petron Pura Tarlac along the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX).  Over 500 riders convened at the designated Petron SLEX station, while around 100 riders dropped in at the TPLEX venue. All participants received commemorative Limited Edition Highway Run stickers.

Oil industry leader Petron Corporation was among the organizers of the 2021 Highway Run. One of the highlights of the event was a special promotion where eligible riders were able to avail of 3-liters Petron Sprint 4T Fully Synthetic Motorcycle Engine Oil. The oil provides protection against wear and corrosion, gives superior engine cleanliness for engine performance, has exceptional shear stability to resist oil thinning and breakdown, and has excellent friction characteristics for clutch performance.

"Petron is the perfect meeting place to celebrate the annual Highway Run. Comfortable restaurants, stores, and facilities make it a favorite take off point and stop over for many motorcyclists. On top of that, their gasoline and motor oil products are a popular choice for many motorists looking for higher performance from their engines," said Mad Dog president, Dustin Andaya.

Among the celebrities spotted at the 2021 Highway Run was television host, Kim Atienza, known to be an avid bike enthusiast.

In addition to the Mad Dog Motorcycle Club and Petron Corporation, the 2021 Highway Run also received support from BMW Motorrad, and SMC Infrastructure.
