BMW PH welcomes F 900 XR

The BMW F 900 R’s more touring-oriented sibling is finally on Philippine shores. Originally promised last year, the pandemic had delayed its much awaited arrival.

The F 900 XR is the more accessible sport touring model of the XR series, offered just under the top-of-the-line S 1000 XR. This model is intended to offer the joys and conveniences of a GS, but designed with a more on-road and touring performance in mind.

Based on the F 900 R

Though based on the same platform as the F 900 R, the XR offers a drastically different fully faired look and twin LED headlights. The front fairing includes an adjustable windshield for a sporty look with sound rider protection.

Rather than an inline-4 as found in the S1000 XR, powering the F 900 XR is a 2-cylinder inline engine. This 895cc twin produces 105 PS at 8,500 rpm and 92 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Like its big sister, it also gets a standard anti-hopping clutch, and optional engine drag torque control (MSR) that returns smoother power delivery.

Lots of tech

It comes with two standard riding modes: “Rain” and “Road” with ABS and ASC Automatic Stability Control, which can be turned off.

The Optional “Riding Modes Pro” adds “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” modes, as well as Dynamic Traction Control DTC and banking capable ABS Pro with engine drag torque control (MSR).

There's also the optional Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) that changes the damping of the rear spring strut automatically to the conditions.

The bike is built on a steel bridge frame that integrates the engine as a load-bearing element and a fuel tank that is now back in its classic position in front of the rider.

Rolling over bumps is an upside-down telescopic fork, while the rear wheel is guided by a double-sided swing arm with central suspension strut.

All the settings are displayed on the 6.5-inch instrument panel. Additional settings screens, Pro riding modes, and compatibility with phones are offered with the Connectivity package.

More optional extras are available in the form of features like Adaptive Cornering Lights, Keyless Ride, and Shift Assistant Pro.

The F 900 XR is offered in two style variants: Style Exclusive in Galvanic Gold metallic and Sport in Racing Red.

The new model is now available for viewing at BMW Motorrad showrooms. Accessories are also on hand for those interested. It starts at PhP975,000 and comes with a 5-year warranty.
