Powered by new LC4 engine

KTM has released the upgraded 690 SMC R and Enduro R for 2019. Both motorcycles are powered by the Austrian manufacturer’s new liquid-cooled 690cc LC4 single-cylinder engines with dual balancer shafts, cylinder heads with dual ignition, and Keihin EFI with 50 mm throttle bodies. As usual, KISKA is credited with the slim bodywork.

The 2019 690 SMC R and Enduro R have a lot more in common — ultralight chrome-molybdenum trellis frames, self-supporting, 13.5 L polymer rear fuel tanks, Brembo brakes, electronic rider aids, fully-adjustable WP suspension with separate damping circuits, PASC slipper clutches, Quickshifter+, Motorcycle traction control (MTC), and cornering ABS. The handful of differences suit their individual purposes. Customers just have to choose between the supermoto or the enduro

KTM updated the 2019 SMC R with improved ergonomics and fully-adjustable WP APEX suspension — 48 mm inverted forks with 215 mm of travel, and a rear monoshock with 240 mm of travel. This agile and aggressive package enhances the SMC R’s potential for mischief and its capability to perform on tight twisties, the track, or through traffic. After all, KTM markets the SMC R for “street hooligans.”

The 2019 KTM 690 SMC R comes with two ride modes: Street and Sport. Meanwhile, the Supermoto ABS mode aids rear sliding, by keeping the front stable and allowing the rear wheel to lock. The motorcycle gets 17-inch wheels that are slowed by a 320 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear unit. Dry weight is 147 kg, ground clearance is 238 mm, and seat height is 890 mm on the 2019 690 SMC R.

KTM designed the 690 Enduro R to be versatile, adventure-ready, and reliable for daily riding — while satisfying experienced riders as well as serving as a good gateway for those new to riding off-road.
